THE DEWINTERS
SGH meets the metal oracles, Dewinter Metalworks
When the Dewinters reached out to us for a garden we immediately became super-fans of their work and brand ethos. Creating things with superior craftsmanship and integrity, outside the box thinking, making shit with your hands instead of just sitting at a computer? Heck yeah. It was kismet, as if the stars aligned to bring us together and blow our minds wide open to the potential of evolving metals in a garden space.
Their garden needs were primarily creating an indoor/outdoor living space for their family. Gathering, dining, entertaining, chilling, etc. A place to really spend some time in.
The home has this lava rock veneer, a relic of the 90’s, on part of the exterior. At first we were bummed about it, it was weird, but didn’t want to remove it (what’s even under there?? The whole place could come crumbling down!). But as we delved in to design it really grew on us and we decided to integrate the lava rock in to the garden. A good choice it turns out.
Our material palette became reclaimed brick, granite and lava rock, DG, and textured plant life. The Dewinters fabricated and installed a truly beautiful corten steel enclosure that serves as a backdrop for wispy silvery green wattles and sages. A knockout.
Intensely warm, inviting, and groovy.
Stand by for more pics! The Dewinters are busy making a planter situation for the gathering area.
